Breakfast With Jesus: ROMANS 8:31-32

What shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?

God is for us

God wants you to succeed

Yes, there is a conspiracy – with you as the object of its work – but the conspiracy is to bless you. God loves you and wants you to succeed.

what shall we say then: We need to constantly repeat to ourselves and to others that God is for us. We need to constantly remind ourselves that God is for us. The Apostle Paul is summing up his teaching of the earlier chapters with this declaration. God is for us. He packages the truth of Christianity in a small, little phrase. God is for us.  He is not against us. He sacrificed His own Son so that we would be able to have a relationship with Him in eternity. He does have a different definition of success than the culture around us, but He is for us.

God is for us: This is such a huge truth. It is translated “if God is for us,” but the word “if” should be translated “since,” so the phrase should read “since God is for us.” Think this through. The Almighty God who created the universe is for you. He wants you to succeed. He wants you to enjoy the best of this life and the wonders of eternity. Realize that He believes that the best of this world are the relationships that He brings your way, not the material stuff that is around you. God is for you. No matter how much you have messed up your life, no matter where you are in your life – at the beginning or near the end or in the middle – God is for you. He knows the way out, the way up, the way forward to the blessed life He has planned for you. Christ Himself said that God wants us to have an abundant life. Wherever you are in your life as you read this, God is for you. You may have been against God. You may have been against yourself, but God is for you.

He is pointing out a path that leads to a great life. Yes, there are some hard things in that path like taking personal responsibility for the things you have done. But you know it is the right thing to do and the better path. This path includes freedom from the guilt of your past actions. This path includes repaired relationships. This path builds slowly, like it says in Psalms 37, until it is glowing like the noonday sun. Embrace the path of God’s direction.

Surrender to His help. Surrender to His direction. Use His assistance. Let Him bless you. Our world says to chase after pleasure instead of responsibility and relationships.  But eventually pleasure reaches a dead end in boredom and a host of problems. God says go after deep, strong, truly loving relationships.

Look for the presents, the blessings, the encouragements, the assistance every day. It is there; we just don’t always pay attention and utilize it. Our life is like a marathon race. Every mile there is an aid station with water, fruit, restrooms, Gatoraide.  God has packed up picnic baskets and left them along the side of the road that contain aids for the journey that day. He knows what the future will hold for each of us. He knows every path we could take and the one that we will take. He has inserted aids, blessings, encouragement, and direction along our pathway so that we will make better choices, live a more abundant life, and be encouraged at a new level.

The apostle points out that if the Almighty was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for our benefit, then all other blessings are available from God. He already sacrificed His only Son so that we would enjoy fellowship with Him. If you need something to retain fellowship with Him, He will make sure you have it. If you are on His mission and connected to Him, then nothing is out of bounds.

The problem is not on God’s end. The problem is on our end. We do not see the blessings. We do not take advantage of the assistance. We believe that we have to do this on our own.  God is blessing you today. Ask for what you need. Do not be shy. What do you need to have in order to accomplish the good work that God wants you to do? Ask for those things.  Look for the assistance that He has placed in your life.

Realize that he knows the future and that you would be where you are right now. So He has stashed help, blessings, encouragement, and assistance right there with you on your path. He knew that you would be there.
